Theatre Rating System

For all my Theatre Reviews I use the following categories. Results are then tallied and averaged to come up with the final score.

Core Theatrical Elements

  • Script (5 stars possible): Consider plot originality, character development, dialogue quality, and overall effectiveness in conveying the story. (One star might be for a nonsensical plot, while four stars would be for a well-written and engaging script).
  • Acting (5 stars possible): Evaluate the technical skills of the actors (voice projection, stage presence, emotional believability) and their ability to embody their characters.
  • Direction (5 stars possible): Consider how well the director brought the script to life. This includes pacing, use of stage space, and overall vision for the show.
  • Design (5 stars possible): This encompasses set design, costume design, lighting design, and sound design. Evaluate how well these elements work together to create the desired atmosphere and support the story.

Show Specific Categories

  • Choreography (5 stars possible): (For shows with dance) Evaluate the originality, execution, and effectiveness of the choreography in conveying the story or emotions.
  • Special Effects (5 stars possible): Consider the impact and seamlessness of any special effects used in the show.

Audience Experience
